The Aurora Colony Church: ... a lost treasure. The Old Colony church was priceless to these communal minded colonists. This land mark, with its grand bell tower and well proportioned nave stood on a rise well north of the Master's house. Build in 1864 - 66,, dedicated in the spring of 1867, sold in 1911 for $200, and wrecked for its lumber.
"Das Gros Hous" - The Master's House: The home of Dr. Wm. Keil built of sash sawed local material in 1858 - 1860. It was a popular gathering place till the more centrally located hall-supply store was built. The Master's House was destroyed by fire September of 1906.
The Kraus House: Typical of others in the colony, this board and batt family dwelling was erected by communal craftsmen in 1863 - 64. A gift to the Aurora Colony Historical Society from John R. Kraus, in whose family ownership the house has been since 1879. This two story white frame building occupies a site next to the Oxbarn Museum on the East being moved there from Third and Main Streets in 1968 and is an important part of the museum setup.
The Steinbach Log Cabin: This pioneer style log cabin was moved from a well timbered area north of Aurora to museum property in 1969 and dedicated Sunday the 28th of September. It was but a temporary home for a colony family. Timbers for this cabin were cut and laid 100 years ago.
